Dance Programmes

With bliss of nature and a vibrant community, Kerala also possess a rich collection of music, dance as well as arts. Most of these music, art and dance are special to the land and represent the love for its people. There are several types of dance forms and some of the popular dance forms which still have performing artists available are given below which can be viewed by our resident and non-resident guests.

We have included Kathakali in the “combined packages” programme wherein seeing Kathakali has been combined with visits of local tourist places of attractions, Ayurveda therapy, Yoga and mediation. You may check out this package in the section on Packages.

Our resident and non-resident guests could also choose to see or learn any one dance programme alone as a single package (for details Contact Us) or a combination of all of these dances programmes. This could be done as a “Special Dance alone programme” You may inform us your interests by E-mail and we shall provide a detailed package for you of the dances alone depending on the number of days you have.

Kalarippayat:
Kalarippayattu is considered to be the special martial arts legacy of Kerala. Kalarippayattu  etymologically refers to the attained skill of art. ‘Kalari’ indicates to school or area and ‘pyat’ relates to skill training, exercise and expertise. It is the most complete personal self defense training method found anywhere in the world. The objective of Kalarippayattu  is not only self defense as well as offense, but also the mental power which is attained by means of physical exercises. We would arrange for Kalarippayattu  Demonstration and Kalarippayattu classes at a Kalarippayattu  center for our resident and non-resident guests on request. Quote Available on request. Kathakali:
The Kathakali originated 1500 years ago. The make-up, costumes, expressions, movements and the language make Kathakali a really visual treat for all. Kathakali incorporates three fine arts such as Abhinayam which means acting, Nrityam which is dancing and Geetam which indicates singing. The actors propound their roles with the assistance of mudras  and facial expressions. Kathakali is normally performed at dusk, often persistently for several days. Each night will characterize one act of the play. The performance continues till morning. Viewing the Kathakali performance can be arranged at a Kathakali performing center with visits to local places of attraction for both our guests and non-resident guests.

Mohiniyattom:
Mohiniyattam is the peculiar dance type of Kerala that depicts enchantment, grace as well as passion. The performances are conducted only by women. In Mohiniyattam, the lasya component of dancing is prominent, and the mood generated is Sringaram which means erotic, Mohiniyattam conceptually implies the ‘Dance of the Tempress’. Viewing the Mohiniyattam performance can be arranged at a Kathakali performing center with visits to local places of attraction for both our guests and non-resident guests. Other Popular Dance Forms:
We can arrange for viewing any of these dance and art forms such as “Chenda , Madhalam, Make-up, Koodiyattam, Mizhavu, Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, etc” at a popular academy on request. We will give you descriptions of each of these dance forms for those who are interested. Short-term courses of 1-3 months are available for learning “Chenda , Madhalam, Make-up, Koodiyattam, Mizhavu, Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, etc” on request. Other than our resident guests, our non-resident guests can avail of this facility.
